Cedar Rapids Looks at No-Fare Saturdays on City Busses

RIDERS OF CITY BUSSES IN CEDAR RAPIDS COULD TRAVEL FOR FREE ON SATURDAYS UNDER A NEW PROPOSAL APPROVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL'S TRANSPORTATION AND COMMITTEE.  COUNCILMAN KRIS GULICK SAYS THE IDEA BEHIND NO-FAR SATURDAYS IS TO ENCOURAGE NEW PEOPLE TO GIVE CITY BUSSES A TRY IN HOPES THAT SOME MIGHT THEN USE THE BUSSES DURING THE WEEK.  ACCORDING TO GULICK, THE REVENUE CURRENTLY BROUGHT IN FROM SATURDAY FARES IS LIMITED, SO THE BUS SYSTEM BUDGET WON'T BE AFFECTED MUCH BY THE FREE SATURDAYS.
