Governor Announces Ambitious New Traffic Safety Program

THE GOVERNOR WANTS YOU TO HELP HIM REACH AN AMBITIOUS GOAL. TERRY BRANSTAD SAYS HE WANTS TO CUT THE NUMBER OF TRAFFIC DEATHS IN IOWA TO "ZERO FATALITIES"AND THAT'S GOING TO TAKE EVERYONE DOING THEIR PART.  GOVERNOR BRANSTAD ADMITS HE MAY BE CRITICIZED FOR SETTING SUCH AN AMBITIOUS, PERHAPS UNREALISTIC, GOAL, BUT, HE SAYS "ONE DEATH IS ONE TOO MANY".  THE GOVERNOR SAYS THE D-O-T WILL BE WORKING TO INSTALL MORE RUMBLE STRIPS AND CABLE BARRIERS TO KEEP DRIVERS SAFER. HE ALSO SAYS HE'S CONSIDERING TOUGHER D-U-I, GRADUATED LICENSE REQUIREMENTS, AND DISTRACTED DRIVING PENALTIES NEXT SESSION.
