Transamerica Announces Lay-offs in Cedar Rapids; Nationwide

TRANSAMERICA ON WEDNESDAY NOTIFIED IT'S EMPLOYEES THAT 60 ASSOCIATES WILL BE LET GO IN CEDAR RAPIDS OVER THE NEXT SIX TO NINE MONTHS AS PART OF 140 LAY-OFFS PLANNED NATIONWIDE. ROUGHLY 200 POSITIONS THAT ARE CURRENTLY IN THE LIFE-AND-PROTECTION BUSINESS WILL MOVE TO ENTERPRISE BUSINESSES SERVICES, WHICH THE COMPANY SAYS ARE DESIGNED TO IMPROVE THE INSURER'S COMPETITIVENESS THROUGH OPERATING EFFICIENCIES. TRANSAMERICA OFFICIALS POINT OUT THEY HAVE ADDED ABOUT 200 JOBS IN CEDAR RAPIDS OVER THE PAST YEAR.
